A flower that blooms late once waited through spring.
The Lotus Blooms Late began with four lines: youth has passed once more, and the hundred days suddenly press on. I fear only that the lotus will bloom too late, and that the heart will already be broken.
Youth has passed once more
The hundred days suddenly press on
I fear only that the lotus blooms late
and leaves the heart already broken
I turned those lines into an intimate female folk song. Acoustic guitar carries the story, while a gentle reggae offbeat moves like rings spreading across water. The voice makes no grand declaration. It simply sings, slowly, all that was never said.
The lotus is not what truly arrives late in this song. The flower will still open in its own season. What runs out of time is the person waiting beside it, the words that went unsaid, and the love understood only after youth had passed.
The music video moves from rain at night, an empty dress and a moonlit lotus pond towards a misty lake and dawn. The Chinese lyrics appear directly in the picture. The author credit remains at the top right, and the video ends with the fixed five-second Suxi’s World ring sequence.
Lyrics
Youth has passed once more The hundred days suddenly press on I fear only that the lotus blooms late and leaves the heart already broken
Last night’s rain lingers beneath the eaves Drop by drop, counting the long night through The woman in the mirror gently pins up her hair but cannot keep the spring from moving south
An old dress still hangs by the window It rises in the wind like someone in their youth I never asked when you would return I feared the sky would darken if I spoke
I never asked when the flower would open I feared the wind would come if I did I waited for no one’s answer I simply could not bear to leave
If the lotus blooms too late who will still be watching by the water? The moon shines on an empty dress I say your name very slowly
If youth leaves too quickly there is no time to walk beside you The hundred days rise like a tide, inch by inch They flood my heart and refuse to return
The cicadas suddenly fall silent at noon as if they know that autumn has passed I once hid my thoughts beneath the lotus leaves Now only faint ripples remain on the water
You said every flower has its season and no one should grieve for a late fragrance But the lightest promise in this world often takes a lifetime to await
I never asked when the flower would open I feared that no one would be there if I did I did not blame the years for moving too fast I simply left the words unsaid that day
If the lotus blooms too late who will still be watching by the water? The moon shines on an empty dress I say your name very slowly
If youth leaves too quickly there is no time to walk beside you The hundred days rise like a tide, inch by inch They flood my heart and refuse to return
Later I walked beside that lake again The lotus leaves bowed their heads in pale mist I heard someone softly saying in the wind A flower that blooms late once waited through spring
But spring did not look back
If the lotus blooms too late let me watch alone beside the water I will light no lamp and disturb no night Let it open on the empty farther shore
If youth must finally scatter leave its last fragrance in my clothes The hundred days press on. How short a life can be I still love you I simply never said it again
I fear only that the lotus blooms late and leaves the heart already broken The lotus was not late We were
